Character Education Values in Pantun in Sintang to Realize the Profil Pelajar Pancasila at Multicultural Senior High School

Abstract

Pantun has long served as a medium of communication between creators and communities, offering accessible expression through familiar cultural elements. It plays a vital role in instilling character education values within society. As a creative product, pantun embodies fictional narratives and records of human experiences, encompassing both physical and spiritual dimensions. It reflects noble values and moral messages that shape the identity of the Malay people as its cultural custodians. These values are relevant as learning material to strengthen the Profil Pelajar Pancasila, which necessitates various efforts, including fostering global diversity—an aspect closely linked to language. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data sourced from Mr. Mastur, a pantun speaker and custodian of the Istana Almukarramah palace. Pantun containing character education values were collected, classified, analyzed, and interpreted using Ricoeur’s hermeneutic model. The study identified key character education values: (a) patriotism and truth, (b) responsibility, discipline, and independence, (c) trustworthiness, (d) respect and politeness, (e) compassion, care, and hard work, (f) confidence, creativity, and perseverance, (g) justice and leadership, (h) kindness and humility, and (i) tolerance and love of peace. These values contribute meaningfully to the realization of the Profil Pelajar Pancasila.
